When to Consider Replacing
It is often more cost effective to replace your heating system if:
• The cost of repairs is more than 33 percent of the cost to replace
• You have a heat pump that is more than 15 years old
• You have a furnace or boiler that is more than 15 years old

The higher the AFUE rating for a furnace or boiler, the more energy efficient it will be. In the case of a heat pump, the higher the HSPF, SEER and ERR ratings, the more energy efficient that will be. This means you will spend less money each month heating your home.
